  1. If you missed out on the first class at one of the other sites, you can catch it at one of these locations.

  3. If there was any doubt to the viciousness, outrageousness, and insensitivity of the body politics, the despicable rhetoric and unfounded accusations surrounding the horrible shooting in Arizona should put it to rest. Politicians and other political activists, mostly on the left, are shameless in their demeanor and statements appointing blame to people and institutions that they hate politically. The majority of Americans, Democrats, Republicans, liberals, conservatives and others are turned off by such talk and accusations concerning this terrible shooting in Arizona. When politicians and other political activists, including the media, go down that road average Americans turn their backs on both major parties and their distrust of the media is also increased. Soon decent and good people refuse to enter the cesspool of politics as candidates for office. Any politicians trying to make political points on this tragedy I think will pay a heavy political price from the American public. At least I hope so.

  4. I’ve paid close attention to the demeanor and tone of the 112th Congress since it’s inception. I haven’t given much attention to the Senate as it remains in the hands of Harry Reid where a progressive agenda remains in that body. Instead I focused on the House of Representatives now in the hands of the Republicans. I am not surprised at the heated pushback from the Democrats against proposals made by House Republicans. What is rather interesting is that the Democrats continue to use the same arguments and take the same positions on issues like spending and taxation they used during the 2010 mid-term election, and we all know how that turned out for them. I am not sure if House Democrats are dismissive of the American voters or are incapable of changing their spots. Either way their arguments seem more ignominious than propitious.
I was anxious to hear the State of The Union speech (SOTU) by President Obama hoping to hear a more centrist tone from him since the election in November. On a scale from 1 to 10 I rate his speech as a 5. There was a mix of progressive ideas such as more spending which he called investments, and a few bones tossed to conservatives about tort reform and corporate tax rate cuts all tempered with a few moments of levity which were well timed.
The president’s call for civility, working together, and moving forward as a nation was reminiscent of SOTU speeches made by past presidents and was entirely appropriate. But given the toxic and vitriolic rhetoric so common in today’s political discourse, I think the chasm between progressives and conservatives is too wide to span immediately.
Going forward towards the 2012 election it will be interesting and informative to see how serious President Obama and Congress are about working to solve the very serious economic problems facing our nation. The chances of finding solutions have increased with the House no longer controlled by progressives, but the Senate, I fear, will hinder any common sense progress and change. However, I expect the 112th Congress, at least in the House, will have some success but sustainable progress won’t be made until there is a change in the Whitehouse in 2012.

  7. Can I still jump into the class? I'm not new to the Constitution so I'm certain I would be able to get caught up with a little work. Thanks.
